A Reminder for Students Attending Athletic Events

As we work to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone on our school property, we are asking for the support of our students and families.

For the safety of our students, electric bikes, electric scooters, and similar motorized devices should not be ridden or used on Danbury school property, particularly during school activities, athletic events, and other supervised programming. These devices can create unexpected safety concerns when students and families are gathering, moving between areas, or participating in activities.

We have recently had concerns with students bringing these items to athletic events, as well as students leaving the stadium or gym area to ride, play, or gather in unsupervised areas. These situations create unnecessary opportunities for accidents and injuries.

Moving forward, students attending athletic events should remain inside the stadium or gym and, whenever possible, sit with or near their parents/guardians. Once a student leaves the stadium, gym, or school building, they will not be permitted to re-enter the event.

Thank you to our families for helping us keep our school property and athletic events safe, positive, and enjoyable for everyone. Go Lakers! 💙⚓

Attendance Policy Updates due to the Ohio Revised Code

Regular attendance matters. Every day students are in school is an opportunity to learn, build relationships, and stay connected to their school community.

Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, Ohio's attendance requirements place greater emphasis on identifying attendance concerns early and providing support to students and families.

What counts toward chronic absenteeism? Under Ohio law, all missed instructional time counts toward chronic absenteeism, regardless of the reason. This includes:
  • Full-day absences
  • Partial-day absences
  • Tardies and late arrivals
  • Early dismissals
  • Excused absences (i.e. personal illness w/doctor note, funeral, observance of a religious holiday, court ordered appearances w/verification, reasons granted by the principal at their discretion)
  • Unexcused absences
This does not mean students should come to school when they are sick. It means that all missed instructional time is considered when schools look at overall attendance patterns.

What does this mean for you?
Parents and guardians will receive an attendance notification as their child’s missed instructional time reaches key thresholds (5 days, 8 days and 16 days absent) throughout the school year. Each notification is an opportunity for families and the school to connect, understand what may be affecting attendance, and make sure students have the support they need to be successful.

Please note, (16) days means your child has reached the 10% chronic absenteeism threshold. The school will work more closely with your family to understand the circumstances contributing to missed instructional time and determine appropriate supports or interventions to help improve attendance.

💙 Our goal is partnership.
These notifications are not intended to punish families. They are designed to help us recognize attendance concerns early, communicate with families, and make sure every Laker has what they need to be present, connected, and successful at school.

🎓 College & Career Readiness in Action!

Danbury Local Schools students recently had the opportunity to visit The Ohio State University’s main campus in Columbus as part of our College & Career Readiness program!

During their visit, students met with OSU admissions counselors to learn more about academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, scholarship opportunities, and the college admissions process. Students also enjoyed a guided tour of the beautiful campus and got a firsthand look at what college life could look like beyond high school.
